Frequently Asked Questions:

What will we do during our coaching sessions?
At the start of our coaching relationship, we begin with a Discovery Session, which focuses on defining your goals for coaching, designing how we can best work together, and cultivating important resources that will help you be successful in achieving your goals. After your Discovery Session, you are in the driver's seat, and determine what you'd like to focus on during each coaching session. During each session, I coach you on your desired topic, and you walk away with either: 1) a commitment to an important action to complete before our next session, or 2) a powerful question to ponder in preparation for moving forward. We revisit your goals and progress throughout the coaching relationship and revise the overall focus for your coaching as indicated.

Where do we meet? What if we live in different places?
I coach over the phone. Many of my clients report that this is very convenient because it cuts out driving time and allows coaching to be a part of even the busiest of schedules. It also allows me the flexibility to work with clients in a variety of geographical areas and timezones.

How often do we meet for our coaching sessions?
I typically meet with clients two times per month, for 45 minutes per session. I also provide email support in between sessions, to help keep the momentum going with what my clients are working on. Should you desire a different arrangement, I am happy to discuss what will best meet your needs.

How do I know if working with you will be a good fit for me?
It's important to ensure that my coaching is the right fit for your needs before we make a commitment to work together. I offer 45-minute complimentary coaching consultations so that we can both get a feel for how we work together and make a decision about whether to move forward in a coaching relationship. If we're not a good fit for any reason, I can provide referral information for other coaches or alternative service providers.

If I decide to coach with you, how long will we work together?
Once we've decided to partner together as coach and client, I strongly encourage a minimum three-month commitment to the coaching process. This allows the coaching relationship to develop and be powerful: if the going gets tough, we stay in collaboration and work through to the other side. Beyond the initial three months, we work together as long as the coaching is valuable to you in achieving the results you want. For some of my clients, the coaching process ends upon achieving a specific goal; for others, the coaching relationship is a valuable resource that they choose to maintain over many months or years, and through many iterations of desired life changes and personal goal achievements.

What are your fees?
Please contact me to discuss the fees for your desired coaching arrangement.
I offer a variety of pricing options and am open to customizing your coaching package so that my services may be accessible to you.

How is coaching different from therapy?
There are many different forms of therapy, and some therapy modalities overlap to a degree with coaching modalities (ie. strengths-based therapies; positive psychology; solution-focused therapy). In general, however, therapy focuses on addressing issues from the past that keep people stuck in the present, whereas coaching focuses on helping people achieve what they want in the future by exploring needs and desires and taking intentional action in the present. Coaching is intended to serve people who have achieved an optimal level of mental health; coaching is not a form of mental health treatment, nor is it intended to treat physical or psychological symptoms. The coaching relationship is based on the premise that people are already creative, resourceful, and whole.

How can I get other questions answered?
